Matt Mason & John Palmer - Team Wisconsin
Race Across America RAAM 2005

Matt Mason, 33, is Team Wisconsin’s youngest member and comes with his own set of accomplishments.   He has competed in five triathlons, one half-Ironman, one marathon, a half-marathon, and several shorter races.   Matt says, “for me it’s about health and determination. If I can finish and beat a previous records I have been successful.”

That is exactly the attitude he has taken into his training regimen.  In the past month he has logged over 1200 miles in cycling and most of those days included several hours of temperatures of 40 degrees or less. He is committed to be as prepared as possible for the world’s most grueling bike race.

Matt is a fundraising consultant with Dickerson & Associates.  He specializes in helping non-profit organization raise money through vehicle donation programs.www.vehiclesforcharities.com.

John Palmer, 35, co-owner of Four Lakes Athletic Club, has been traversed Wisconsin North to South and a great portion of Alaska on his bike. He has completed two Ironman competitions in addition to many Olympic distance triathlons.Even with all these competitions under his belt John’s experience pales in comparison to the field of competitors.  His greatest strategy in racing comes from the parable of the Tortoise and the Hair: slow and steady wins the race.

Team Wisconsin is one of only five teams competing in the two person men's division. The odds are stacked against us but if we train smart and race with good economy there is a chance (small) that we could actually win. However, ultimately, the goal is simply to finish and prove that Average Joe can do more than was thought possible.
